Al Gore would be the perfect choice for ambassador to the United Nations if Barack Obama attains the presidency in 2008. The post is a perfect compromise for Gore who views the vice-presidency as a step down and who views the presidency--so far--as a province for others to pursue.
The post would provide a bully pulpit for the causes in which he believes. An appointment of Gore to the UN ambassadorship would signal to the nation and the world that we take the organization itself seriously, that we take our responsibility on the world stage seriously, that we acknowledge the importance of climate change on the global landscape, and that we want to rejoin the community of nations dedicated to the rule of law.
