Things have been hectic the last few days. The blog is like an angry pet reminding me always that I haven't fed it lately.

Yesterday was a very good day. We drove out to the northern part of the island to meet an excellent dog trainer. I set up her computers while she worked with Jacques, our two year-old miniature poodle. Then, we drove to the coast to set up a wireless network for two of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Jacques got his introduction to the ocean (two years old and he'd never seen it). That area of the island has been plagued by a series of stubborn brush fires. Helicopters were ferrying water in to douse the flames yesterday. All-in-all, a long and singular day. I used to travel the island fixing computers before the volume of business made that impractical. Now, I journey out only when it's absolutely necessary. My job would take me to parts of the island I'd have never seen otherwise, and introduced me to wonderful people. It was nice to feel that again.

The day before that, the yard was graced by the monarch of the Hawaiian skies: a Hawaiian hawk. The noble bird had captured one of the noble chickens I feed every morning and made short work of it. Not even the cats dared approach until the hawk was done. As you can see from the picture, the hawk didn't give much of a damn about my presence, either. The picture isn't very good, but there it is. Your rare sight for the day: A noble, endangered `io.

Ooooh, cool, MacDaffy! I didn't see one of those when I was in Hawaii, but I sure tried!

What long legs it has. And it looks as if it plucked the chicken before it ate. Picky bird.

Skygge--there was NOTHING LEFT! No bones. No gory bits. No extraneous pieces. Just a few feathers. I walked over not a minute after I took that picture and the 'io had done it's best.

That's the second time I've seen one eating. They're something to see.
